Emergency Vehicle Rules of the Road
1. Yield to emergency vehicles: When you hear the sirens or see flashing lights of an emergency vehicle, move your vehicle to the right side of the road and stop as quickly and safely as possible.
2. Do not block intersections: If you are stopped at an intersection and an emergency vehicle is approaching, do not move your vehicle into the intersection. Instead, wait for the vehicle to pass before moving.
3. Follow directions of emergency personnel: If an emergency vehicle is stopped and personnel are giving you directions, follow them immediately.
4. Pull over completely: When you stop your vehicle for an emergency vehicle, make sure you pull as far to the right side of the road as possible. This allows emergency vehicles to pass safely around you.
5. Do not follow emergency vehicles closely: When emergency vehicles are passing, do not follow them closely or try to keep up with them. This can be dangerous and may distract the driver of the emergency vehicle.
6. Do not use emergency vehicle lights and sirens incorrectly: It is illegal to use emergency vehicle lights and sirens on a personal vehicle unless you are authorized by law to do so.
7. Keep intersections clear: Do not block an intersection if you are stopped in traffic. This can prevent emergency vehicles from getting through the intersection quickly.
8. Do not park in emergency vehicle zones: It is illegal to park in areas designated for emergency vehicles. These areas must be kept clear so that emergency responders can access them quickly.Tips to help keep you and fellow drivers safer when on our roads and highways
