Some Rules of the Road when Driving in Utah 

Here are a few driving laws you should know when driving in Utah and remember driving laws can and do change from time to time so when in doubt reach out to the Utah Highway Patrol for clarification

  1. In Utah, it is illegal to drive a car with a dog on your lap.
  2. It is illegal to drive a car without both hands on the wheel unless you have a physical disability that prevents you from doing so.
  3. It is illegal to carry an uncaged animal in the back of a pickup truck on a highway.
  4. In Utah, it is illegal for a person to ride in the back of a pickup truck on a highway unless the person is standing up and holding onto a railing or other safety device.
  5. It is illegal to drive a vehicle on a sidewalk or pedestrian pathway.
  6. In Utah, it is illegal to operate a vehicle while wearing headphones or earbuds that cover both ears.
  7. It is illegal to park a vehicle within 10 feet of a mailbox, fire hydrant, or other designated “no parking” area.
  8. In Utah, it is illegal to leave a vehicle running unattended for more than two minutes.
  9. It is illegal to drive a vehicle with a cracked windshield that obstructs the driver’s view.
  10. In Utah, it is illegal to drive a vehicle with studded tires between May 1 and October 15, unless you are driving on a snow-covered highway.

Remember that in Utah it is illegal for any person to operate or be in physical control of a motor vehicle if: They have a blood or breath alcohol level of (. 08 or higher (. 04 for commercial drivers and anything above.

Having lived and spent some wonderful times in Utah, when it comes to driving from my perspective, no one drives well in snow and sleet including myself, watch out for BLACK ICE on roads and highways in cold weather.
